"This is Casey Kasem in Hollywood on American Top 40. We're counting down the biggest hits in the nation the way they're ranked on Billboard Magazine's Pop Singles chart and our countdown continues." American Top 40 with Casey Kasem aired on radio from July 4, 1970 until August 6, 1988. This is a recording of a rebroadcast from internet radio. In this broadcast: After ten weeks in the top 10, "Bad Girls" by Donna Summer slips to number 11. Casey tells us why the man who told Beethoven to "Roll Over" and Johnny to "B. Goode" is in jail. A listener wants to know, "What solo artist has had the most top ten hits without ever hitting number one?" There's an artist in the countdown whose career almost ended in one of the greatest promotional fiascos of rock history. The group he was in at the time became the laughing stock of the music industry. Casey tells the story. Casey lists 27 acts that are named after food (such as Meatloaf or The Lemon Pipers). There's a group in the countdown whose early adventures sound like a television sit-com. On their first trip to New York City, they lose all their musical instruments, push their host out of his own home, then borrow his car and wreck it. Casey gives the details. Dear friend miguel.de.pomar
Sorry for the lateness. I got called in to work on my day off and I work 12 hour shifts, but here's the good news.
First, I bought a second computer so now I can record shows on different stations that broadcast at the same time. I should have many less missed extras or dropped connections (like in the next post, American_Top_40_1971_September_4th where I only got one recording).
Second, on October 7th, 1978, American Top 40 went to a four-hour format. But most of the radio stations that play the 70's editions just play the last three hours of a show when a four hour show comes up in the rotation. Well I found two stations this weekend that play the full show when a four hour 70's show comes up (as you can see by the really great show I got right here).
These stations are (in Columbus, Ohio):

and (In Glasgow, Scotland)

Third, you'll also notice on their web-sites that these stations played two different 70's shows this week, one from the early 70's and one from the late 70's. That means I might be getting three shows a week from now on instead of two; 2 from the 70's and 1 from the 80's.
And that's what can happen when you keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars.

Hi RocketMan999. Nice to have you back.
I always thought that music is not just a matter of art, but one of the things that shows the greatness of the human being that lies inside himself (so to speak). All in all, it is great to have the chance to listen to these shows, reminisce and enjoy.
It is really a great job, you are putting on this task and above this, so generous of you to upload these files, just for the sake of sharing it.
I have some of the shows in my car. It is really fine to listen to some good music for a change. A long time ago, the defunct "88.3 Telestereo FM" used to broadcast these shows in Lima, but that was then, and now it is impossible to find anything good.
Again thank you my dear friend.
By the way, great tunes in this chart, like Maureen McGovern 's "Different Worlds" and the lovely LEAD ME ON
