Thanks, heard this one was brutal and Mark Hamill is in psycho mode...
Hello,
My name is Kern Saxton and I directed, co-wrote, produced and edited this film, Sushi Girl. Thank you for your interest in the movie, it seems that this and other torrents have generated quite a bit of traffic. Thank you for watching, and I hope you enjoy it. If you do like it, please consider purchasing the film at some point, either on VOD, where it can be viewed through most cable and satellite providers in North America, in theaters when it is released early next year, or on DVD and Blu-Ray (which will have 7.1 audio and a great deal of extra features) when released in February. It would certainly mean a lot to me and the cast and crew, as many of us spent over three years working on this film, most of us with little to no pay, so you could enjoy it. Independent films like Sushi Girl are heavily affected by digital torrent sites like this, and while we appreciate that you want to watch our film, it is very difficult for people like us to make a living when it is given out for free. So, if you like it and want to show your support, please purchase it legally. I would also recommend seeing the film in a theater, preferably one that will show it in 7.1 Dolby, but that's just the perfectionist in me. If you don't like it, at least have some common courtesy and don't talk or spoil the film for others, as you acquired it for free. All I ask is that you give it a fair shot, as I hope to make more films in the future for you all to enjoy. So again, if you like the film, please buy it in some form, and please encourage your friends to buy it too. That's the only way we're really going to be able to keep independent cinema alive!
Thanks!

-K
thanks
Dear Kern Saxton,
I like your approach and through this I will endeavor to purchase your movie at my earliest opportunity.
- K
Remarkable to see such a professional approach.. Definite purchase for me.. I'm a big fan for more then 30% of the cast.
Dear K, love it, bought it.
Kern Saxton...

As already comunicated with the maker of "Thale", Aleksander_Nordaas, I would be very happy to donate for your work.

My situation might be special, but I would be happy, as I did on http://www.kindoffishy.com, to contribute for your work.

Please let me know where I could "pay" for the film"!

Hello Kern Saxton:

I can certainly understand your concerns about making money. However, you and your partners are more to blame than we are. Who leaks this, the people who own it. Not the dl'ers.
@dannyhannah- Don't be a jerk. All you're doing is adding insult to injury; the argument you make here is neither convincing nor accurate. It does not justify your actions, or the actions of the uploaders.

Nobody leaked the film. A regular consumer bought an iTunes stream of the Canadian release and offered it up on a torrent site for free. Other people downloaded that file and put it up here, and so on and so on. It was not within the uploader's legal right to place the file he/she purchased online for others to download for free without permission from me or my partners, the copyright holders.

Basically what you're saying is that because I put my movie out for sale commercially, I'm responsible for someone ripping it and posting it online, and for you downloading it and not paying for it. That's probably one of the more illogical rationalizations I've heard for piracy. By your account, everyone who makes anything and sells it commercially is at fault if it gets stolen. That's not how the world works.

Let's get it straight: You are the only one who can be held accountable for what you do. You're the one who's on torrent sites downloading movies and music illegally. I only made the thing you decided to steal. I didn't give permission for anyone to post the film to torrent sites, I didn't give anyone permission to download from torrent sites. In the eyes of US copyright law, it's my right to dictate how the film is distributed. You're infringing on my rights and breaking the law by downloading it against my wishes. It is not my fault that you chose to break that law. I didn't ask you to do it, I didn't force you to do it, you made that decision yourself.

There's nothing I can do to stop you from downloading and seeding my film, outside of finding out who you are and where you live and slapping you with a lawsuit. That's extremely expensive, time consuming and there's no guarantee that you'd actually stop, or that I'd see any money from you. And if I sue you for illegally downloading it, I have to sue everyone who has, and I don't want to do that. What I want is for you to show some respect and purchase a copy legally so I can afford to continue to produce entertainment that you can enjoy. I can live with that. I'm sure you can live with it too. We'll both be happier, and there will be more movies for everyone to enjoy.

But don't you dare try to tell me it's my fault that you're pirating my movie. It's not. Take some responsibility for your own actions.
@Kern

Hello Dear, let me just start off this tirade with a warm thank you for the fishing game. We both make for really good bait. Hope it's worth it for you in the end.

1. First off "an Itunes stream", yes that is your fault for starting the domino effect. Dvd rips (months before they hit the theater) dvd screeners while they are still there are all shared through whomever has the movie. So if you are the owner then yes you are responsible for what happens to it. We can agree to disagree.

2. I have over 6000 songs dl for free. I paid my dues for all of them when the music originally came out. The music industry has not died b/c of the internet. The music industry has died b/c it is all crap. Remember you can't spell crap without spelling rap. The music that was shared to me is no different then people recording concerts and sharing their tapes.

3. You basically repeated yourself in all your paragraphs so here is the real point. Your movie absolutely sucked. My friend laughed at me when I told him the title. After reading the synopsis, I was hoping for at least something comparable to "Reservoir Dogs" or even The Killing Jar. You spent 3 years making a film where 9/10 of it revolved around one scene. No dialogue, no point, just an unneccesary torture scene. Yah right I crashed into the passenger side of a car and dont notice the girl. Whatever, it sucked. You can say what you want.

4. Here is my donation to you and the rest of your crew. Bring on the suit. 453 Clara Ave. Ukiah, CA. I also have a sister in the business here name is Daryl. Ever heard of her. The people at the college who were responsible for all the music dling had to apoogize. So you go ahead and bring it babe.

5. This has nothing to do with anything but another baiting game. Sandy Hook, Virginia Tech, all compliments of CIA Black ops. Which really means blacked out eyes of cadavers. Wake up people CIA is selling you fear.
Danny, it's obvious you're a troll. I get it. I hope you're having fun.

1. An iTunes stream is a commercial product. We had screeners on DVD circulated around the industry well before that iTunes rip hit the net, and those didn't end up online. What you're basically saying is that downloaders are like hungry people that feel they have a right to eat food off of anyone's plate in the restaurant because it's being served in front of them. Grow up.

2. You downloading music is different than people recording concerts and sharing tapes with one another- they bought concert tickets, they only shared it with people they knew, not millions of strangers on the internet, and those recordings didn't supplant the purchase of a commercially available album or single.

3. Thanks for the feedback, I'll be sure to consult it when I'm making my next movie... oh wait, no I can't, you clearly don't know what you're talking about! There's not a single valid criticism in your entire rant. Nobody should take advice from a lunatic on the internet who thinks the Sandy Hook shooting was a CIA covert op. Lay off the paint thinner.

4. Daryl Hannah doesn't have a brother named Danny, and her real brother doesn't live in Ukiah. Also, I doubt he'd be stupid enough to incite an argument with a fellow filmmaker on Pirate Bay, or publicly admit to downloading thousands of songs that he didn't pay for, then provide his address and ask to be sued. Nice try.

Also:
"The people at the college who were responsible for all the music dling had to apoogize."
Why would you include this amazing factoid after name dropping a celebrity that shares a last name with your anonymous internet personality? Does this mean I'll get an "apoogy" from you if I sue?

5. As you can see, ladies and gentlemen, this person is a nutjob. The next thing you know, he'll be trying to tell you I'm a reptillian shapeshifter and my movie is just propaganda designed to melt your brain into a submissive goo so you'll continue to feed the machine of oppression. I've already explained that I'm not a part of the Hollywood studio system!
@Kern

I haven't even watched your movie yet but I just preordered the bluray from Amazon because of how much I respect the approach you took by coming here and saying what you did, and how you handled that asshole that you didn't even have to respond to. Thanks for being awesome man.
Kern Saxton I loved your awesome film, thank you!!
Also thank you for being here, I agree with your approach and all your comments .
Every mans effort should be rewarded, money or not!

Uploader and the community. Thank you for sharing this film i rate A/V/M:10.

We make about 180 US dollars the month in Bulgaria, Internet is probably the only thing out of this cage that can feed our brains from entertainment to knowledge. Sometimes it feeds the stomach too!
So Again... Thank you for sharing =] !

dannyhannah? or w/e... Your seem to be paranoiac and for sure you are an ignorant selfish asshole. See a doctor with the money your saved on music, he might be able to get you off the playground!
We don't share just because we can... Don't humiliate it that way!

What he very decently explained is ''if you like the film don't forget to contribute! Money don't come easy, especially in independent production!''. No reason to go ''ape'' on that... He even actually said ''Thank you for downloading my film, i hope you enjoy it!''!!!
How the fuck you turn that into a CIA conspiracy?
GTFO!

Most importantly and I believe all would agree:
No matter if you like the film or not, and any other film shared here put your critics and spoilers in a website where they care about it! Here you can rate and that's more than enough!
Dear Mr. Saxton: This is the first time I encounter a movie director who makes the effort of addressing people on this humble site – and I truly admire your commitment. There is no doubt about this movie getting the attention it deserves as it has all the quality (perfectionism included) it needs. You (may) know that your statement here will spread the word (I bought it and I will find a theater when it shows).
Very good quality. Good film too. Thanks
