.: Plot :.

Many of the Pinky and the Brain episodes occur in the present time at Acme Labs, located in some large American metropolitan city near a bridge, presumably San Francisco to tie in with Animaniacs and the Warner Brothers  studio lot. However, several episodes took place in historical times, with Pinky and the Brain under the laboratory care of some scientifically-minded person, including Merlin, H.G. Wells and Ivan Pavlov.

The bulk of every episode involves one of Brain's plans for world domination with Pinky's assistance and the ultimate failure of that plan. One centers on his rival Snowball's plan to take over the world using Microsponge. Another episode features Brain's single day where he tries to do anything but take over the world: in the end, a group of people vote that he should take over the world on the one day he does not want to. There is very little continuity between episodes outside of the common fixtures of the mice, though some plans for world domination from early episodes are subsequently referred to in later seasons (for example, Brain's "human suit" used in "Win Big" reappears when Brain faces Snowball in "Snowball").

Both Pinky and the Brain, white mice kept as part of Acme Labs' experimentation, have undergone significant genetic alteration; as per the show's title lyrics, "their genes have been spliced" which gives the two mice amplified intelligence over that of a typical mouse, the ability to talk to humans, and anthropomorphism. "Project B.R.A.I.N." suggests that the gene splicing occurred on September 9, 1995, coincident to the first full episode of Pinky and the Brain. The episode "Brainwashed" states that the gene splicing was done by Dr. Mordough, along with Snowball the hamster and Precious the cat, using the Acme "Gene Splicer and Bagel Warmer."
Although Pinky and the Brain plan to conquer the world, they do not show much animosity; in a Christmas special Pinky even wrote to Santa that Brain had the world's best interests at heart.

.: Trama :.

Quasi tutti gli episodi del cartone si svolgono nei Laboratori ACME, situati in una grande città americana, presumibilmente Los Angeles. Alcuni episodi si sono svolti in diverse epoche storiche, con Mignolo e Prof. nel laboratorio di grandi scienziati o importanti personalità quali Mago Merlino, H.G. Wells ed Ivan Pavlov.

Prof. (nome originale: the Brain) è il personaggio più intelligente della serie TV. È un genio che sogna di conquistare il mondo mediante surreali piani che puntualmente falliscono in ogni episodio. Prima di diventare un topo super-intelligente, era grande amico di un criceto chiamato Palladineve (nome originale: Snowball), quando però una macchina del loro laboratorio trasformò entrambi in geni la loro amicizia si ruppe e i due divennero acerrimi nemici.
Fisicamente Prof. ha una testa molto grossa e larga, probabilmente per ospitare il suo cervello sovrasviluppato (tipica conformazione del cranio umano, al contrario di quello animale che possiede un voluminoso osso incisivo, presente nel cranio di Mignolo), e una coda arrotolata a spirale, che spesso usa per aprire il lucchetto della gabbia. Caratterialmente appare freddo e sprezzante e spesso parla con tono inespressivo. Tuttavia, ha un senso dell'umorismo sottile una volta si è addirittura innamorato di Billie. Infine, sotto molti aspetti ricorda Orson Welles, specialmente per la caratterizzazione vocale (il doppiatore originale, Maurice LaMarche, ha dichiarato di essersi ispirato proprio al regista e attore americano per la voce da dare al personaggio.
Prof. vede la sua inevitabile salita al potere come beneficio per il mondo, invece che come pura megalomania. In un episodio, quando Prof. si trova influenzato dall’ipnosi di uno scienziato (Sigmund Freud) che aveva cercato di manipolare al suo volere, viene rivelato che quando era giovane Prof. viveva in una lattina con i suoi genitori. I ricercatori lo portarono via dalla sua casa e l’ultima cosa che vide fu un’immagine del mondo sul lato della lattina. Lo psicologo congettura allora che la voglia di Prof. di conquistare il mondo venga dal volere indietro il suo mondo visto sulla lattina.

Mignolo (nome originale: Pinky) è l’altro topo geneticamente modificato che divide la gabbia con Prof. ma è senza dubbio meno intelligente. Anche se è pure lui un topo albino da laboratorio come Prof., ha una coda più liscia e lunga, i denti davanti sporgenti ed è molto più alto di Prof. Le sue esclamazioni celebri, nella versione italiana, sono: Nacchio!, Zeppola!, Aloppez! (Zeppola al contario come afferma in un episodio), Accipoffi, Poffi!, Gnoccolo!
Mignolo è molto più aperto di Prof. e non lascia che i problemi gli rovinino la giornata, specialmente perché è troppo sventato per accorgersene. Mignolo inoltre lavora con Prof. nonostante quest’ultimo lo insulti costantemente ed a volte lo picchi sulla testa. Sembra che comunque a Mignolo tutto questo piaccia, perché ride dopo ogni colpo. È anche molto più abituato al mondo, dato che passa molto tempo a guardare la televisione o a seguire le altre manie degli umani; tende perciò a pensare con schemi meno rigorosi di quelli di Prof. ed offre soluzioni a cui Prof. non penserebbe mai.
Mignolo possiede alcune abilità speciali derivanti dall’ingegneria genetica applicata su di lui. Ogni tanto levita e sembra apparentemente capace di telecinesi.
Nella versione originale parla con un esagerato accento Cockney ed è doppiato da Rob Paulsen.

Pinky and the Brain is an animated television series and spinoff of Animaniacs starring Pinky and the Brain. The show ran from 1995 to 2001 on Kids' WB!. The pair later spun off into their second and last series, Pinky, Elmyra & the Brain and paired with Tiny Toons star, Elmyra Duff.
Pinky and the Brain first appeared in 1993 as a recurring segment on the show Animaniacs. From 1995 to 2001, Pinky and the Brain were spun off into their own show on The WB Television Network, Steven Spielberg Presents Pinky and the Brain, with 65 episodes produced by Steven Spielberg and Warner Bros. Animation. Later, they appeared in the unsuccessful series, Steven Spielberg Presents Pinky, Elmyra & the Brain.
Pinky and Brain are genetically enhanced laboratory mice who reside in a cage in the Acme Labs research facility. Brain is self-centered and scheming; Pinky is good-natured but feebleminded. In each episode, Brain devises a new plan to take over the world, which ultimately ends in failure, usually due to Pinky's idiocy or the impossibility of Brain's plan. In common with many other Animaniacs shorts, many episodes are in some way a parody of something else, usually a film or novel. The opening song is preceded by the following dialogue:
Pinky: "Gee, Brain, what do you want to do tonight?"
The Brain: "The same thing we do every night, Pinky—try to take over the world!"

Apparsi per la prima volta nel 1993 nella serie televisiva Animaniacs (anch'essa opera della Warner), questi due personaggi ottennero un tale successo da diventare protagonisti di una serie di 65 episodi interamente a loro dedicata e intitolata Pinky and The Brain, seguita poi da Pinky, Elmyra and The Brain, entrambe trasmesse da The WB Television Network.
Leit motiv della serie è la smania di potere di Prof. che in ogni episodio coinvolge Mignolo in improbabili piani per la conquista del mondo, che puntualmente falliscono. Come l'originale Animaniacs, anche questa serie è ricca di citazioni, sempre in chiave parodica, di film o romanzi famosi.
