Presentation from www.svenskacountryartister.com Strayfolk was formed in 2001 by Henrik Thorén (vocal, guitar, mandolin) and Kalle Malmqvist (guitars, banjo, back-up vocal), who both lived in the northern swedish city of Umeå at the time. The idea was to play moody, country-style music in a predominantly acoustic fashion. The acoustic path, however, has not to this day been consequently pursued. Members were recruited at a music course held at the university of Umeå, which both Henrik and Kalle were attending at the time. As time passed, however, the two were beginning to feel more and more uncomfortable living in the north periphery of a small country, a feeling that resulted in the band – at the time calling themselves Speakeasy – moving to Gothenburg, where they are currently based. As soon as this move was completed, the band name was changed to (the slightly twangier) Strayfolk.
