have you tried using the .h264 codec? i think it's much better than XviD.
No, I haven't tried H.264, I'm not sure if PS3 Video 9 supports it, but I will have to try. I chose XviD to match my old DVD-Rips for spreaming and such over WMP11. I'll look into it.
havn't tried PS3 Video 9 because they have yet to make a mac port, but i have had excellent results using handbrake to encode anything i want to encode. i recently took 300 720p mkv septics' release and output it in 2 forms.
the first was a simple QuickTime export to mp4 only encoding the audio to 2.0ch. i was left with untouched video at 4gb.
and second i did a handbrake encode with .h264 codec 2-pass turbo 1st, i set the video bitrate to 3000kb, etc.etc.etc. and i was left with a video at 2gb.
i than put them both on my ps3 and found very little next to none differences between the two, i kept the 2gb.

I wouldn't expect a Mac port of PS3 Video 9, due to the fact I think it's out of development. But this "Handbrake" interests me, haven't heard of it before.
THANK YOU!
It bugs me how everybody seems to use to mkv format for posting HD movies. As a PS3 user without access to those multi-hundred-dollar media boxes that will play mkv's those are useless, as the PS3 does not currently play them.
Xvid really isn't horribly inferior to mkv, I honestly can't tell the difference. You posting these Xvid movies is GREATLY appreciated! 90% of the HD downloaders out there need Xvid, not mkv!

MKV Can be a pain indeed with the PS3, and it takes alot of time to convert a 4.37 GB MKV to a 1.8 GB AVI, so its good to see my efforts are appreciated. Your welcome.
Its really not as bad as you'd think. Much better than a DVD Rip.
It doesnt look too bad on my friend's 60'' either. The quality shouldn't bother anyone too bad, unless your anal retentive.

Keep up the 720p Xvids - I love 'em too! They work great under XBMC on my Xbox 1.
Great to see good video quality torrent. Appreciated
@ratswen
MKV, AVI, and MP4 are container formats. I believe all of them can hold XVID or DivX. Sadly not all players will recognize all containers.

I don't know how u guys are having problems... download the file, format it, (i use DeveDe Program) then take the formatted file and burn it. I use image burn for that... the download takes anywhere from 30 min. to 8 hours... the format takes 45 mins. to 1 hour and burn takes 15 mins... too easy! For me the hard part is finding the great files to dl...
