Yes, it's a trial, i.e. it works for 30 days for free. But if you know SN, you can enter it, and then iWork 9 becomes... fully functional!!!

goto Library>Preferences>com.apple.iWork08.plist and change this into com.apple.iWork09.plist do the same for com.apple.iWork08.Installer.plist. And your trial will be registered. Provided you did have a working SN for iWork08.

Whoever said it is faster to download off apple's site is waaaay wrong. Once you connect to peers you can download this in almost have the time. It would help if more people would seed though, its really not that hard!

You really want to deal with activation on apple software? I don't I buy apple products and software, do as you wish, just remember "karma" You might want to buy it! Also stealing software is a sin!

You are making the assumption we are religious and believe in karma. Although what you say is true, the more people illegally acquire Apple's software, the more they will try to prevent the pirating of it (activation, etc.) In my case, I just bought a $2,000 dollar laptop that was broken practically on arrival and took them forever to fix, and a week after I finally get it back so I can actually use it new software comes out. They owe me.

To prevent installing the "virus" just download the trial from apple.com and the serial .rtf from the torrent (partial download with Transmission). Please note that this is illegal ;)

I downloaded this, or at least an iWork 09 torrent from this site a few weeks ago. I read many news articles about the trojan and stated to check under "Library", "StartUpItems", and iWork file should be there....

But there aren't any files within this "StartUpItems" folder for me.

Does this mean I lucked out and downloaded an iWork 09 torrent from ThePirateBay that did not have the trojan?

Again, I don't remember exactly which iWork 09 torrent I downloaded from so am not sure whether I have the trojan or not.
