PS... this movie is being remade/re-released as "the strangers" in theaters this summer in the US. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0482606/)
Sorry, I thought the IMDB "id" actually worked and stuff. The URL is: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0465203/

My presumption is based on that Ils (Them) was produced in 2006 - and also based on true events. Without having seen the film in its entirety, I cannot say for certain - nor has any other claims been made as of yet - to my knowledge. But on previews alone: it's the same story, as I HAVE seen the orginal (Ils). I find it very unlikely that another true - based on real life occurrences - story exists that is not based on this original. That movie is a copy much like The Eye and The Grudge... where the US cannot sit idly by and allow subtitles to suffice. It is a copy, I guarantee it. If you're interested in seeing the origins of the movie, this is more than worth a watch. Besides, it actually is scary. Might not have AS impressive previews, but it is a truly spooky movie.

I didn't realize it was based on real events until I reached the credits. That rather... worried me, heh.
I read the denial on IMDB too, but until I see it... I still think it's a remake.
Similar to "The Strangers". Not a total duplicate... basically: only the premise was the same. "Them" was a scarier movie, and written better overall. If you can imagine watching "Them" with all the best parts removed, and a few lame sub-plots thrown in, then you could tolerate watching "The Strangers". The director should have gone for a duplicate instead of a rewrite as there is nothing good about this story... the suspense is what made it worth watching. Dragging out the intro to incorporate unrelated stories in an attempt to generate suspense... didn't work and made for a crappy film.

As always: the foreign original pisses all over the hollywood remake. Nice try though.

Oh, and the IMDB thing wasn't a denial... it was a "maybe?" Having seen it, it's pretty close. The couple had a bigger house in "Them". There was also no failed marriage proposal nor accidentally killed best friend. The children were younger in "Them", and the guy never ran out for cigarettes.

Seriously, it's like every super scary aspect of the original was replaced by "oh... COME ON!!" moments typical of US "scary" movies. Aside from that, I'd call "The Strangers" a remake. It's just such an awful remake that it's difficult to tell the two movies are actually about the same story. They do seem to be - however - about the same story.
100% agree. Not bout this movie, need to see it first, but about U.S. "suspense" action bla bla

Thanks for the upload ! The French are great filmmakers indeed, have always been (and no, I'm not French)

Peace !
