Before the Super Bowl became a media-saturated, unofficial "national holiday," it was only a game. The first Super Bowl--pitting the Green Bay Packers against the Kansas City Chiefs--gave scant indication that the game would evolve into a mass-marketing behometh. Using NFL Films footage, newsreels and interviews, this film examines Super Bowl I from several levels: it's awkward efforts to become an "event," the historical impact of the game itself, and the social context of the mid 1960s.
